Why Did My Laptop Just Go Black?

Laptop just went black. You can hear the gears in the back revving as it reaches the maximum speed allowed and bares down on the asphalt in front of you. Your heart starts pounding as your mind races to try and work out a response to what is going on. But then, you look up and see that your screen has gone black and you stare at the screen in sheer confusion.

Well, actually, it didn’t just go black. Your laptop did stop being an innocent and easy-to-use desktop computer and started becoming a death trap. It’s all down to the battery, unfortunately. Many people are completely fed up with buying expensive laptop batteries that just don’t last very long and then have to shell out hundreds of dollars for another one to replace it. In fact, it seems like these batteries have more disadvantages than advantages.

If you’ve ever used a laptop at night before, you’ll know exactly how uncomfortable it is. The screen is too dim and you can hardly see anything when using the keyboard and mouse. On the plus side, however, it’s very difficult to see anything at night. This makes reading books and other forms of text extremely difficult, which is a huge setback for most laptop owners. Most newer laptops come with at least a bright-white screen, but if yours does not, you may need to get a new battery or go with a different laptop model.

Now, if you’re wondering why the battery just went black in the first place, here’s your answer. Most laptops use an internal battery to power them through the night. When you turn the laptop on, the computer references a battery inside the computer – this battery powers the monitor and all the software and hardware that the computer needs to run, but as soon as the power drops, this battery dies and the monitor goes black. To save power, this laptop just goes dark and hibernates. To save power, you just let the computer uses its own power saving capabilities until you’re ready to turn it back on again.

Unfortunately, this means that the internal battery is not able to supply much power when the laptop’s temperature drops to low levels after using the machine for a while. The battery eventually dies out and the computer shuts down without warning. In short, the computer shuts down without the owner ever being the wiser. The only way to prevent this from happening is by having a backup battery ready and waiting for when the night time heat sink lowers the temperature of the computer.

The best way to save on power consumption when a laptop just went black is to buy a laptop cooling pad. The pad takes care of the internal fan that kicks in when the power goes out. This keeps the internal fans from running continuously and keeps the temperature of the laptop low so that it doesn’t get too hot before the fan kicks in. You can also put a plate with aluminum foil on top of the laptop. This will help prevent the heat sink from being pushed out but won’t prevent the laptop from overheating when you’re using it during the night.
